Abstract

As one of the largest fish producing country, India contributes to 7.58 percent of total global production. Of the 12 metric tonnes (mmt) of fish, 40 percent was from the ocean and the remaining 60 percent from fish farming and inland water bodies. The export value of fish and fishery products from India is over 441 billion Indian rupees. Major employment of 14.5 million people is  in the fishing industry. Taking into consideration the potential of fish farming in India, innovative and scientific techniques and technologies are applied to increase the fish production. Accordingly, there is scope to apply Information Technology in the fish farming section to not only enhance the quantity but also the quality of fish produced. The research paper is based on conceptual methodology of applying IoT for automating the fishery and providing basic security in case of breach. The aim of the research is to design an IoT appliance to automate the fishery for basic operations and provide security features for known vulnerabilities. The automation aims to enhance the quality and quantity of fish produce in the fishery. The paper concludes that IT in the form of IoT is suitable for automating fish farms and can be secured against basic cyber-attacks.
