Abstract

A queue management system for social distancing is an automated queue management system intended to provide its customers ease of management of queues, eventually leading to better throughput. Moreover, this system also fulfils the present need of physical distancing. This research work focuses on identifying queues in supermarkets and monitoring the queues in all aspects involving queue management which enables the shop keeper to keep a check on the length of the queue and improve strategies to manage the load. Also it focuses on physical distancing which continuously monitors the physical distancing status of the people in queue and raises an alert if physical distancing is violated. The presented work also computes average waiting time which gives an approximate time required for the queue to get cleared. Thus, helping the shop owner strategize the operations in a better way.

For implementation purpose Admin Dashboard which facilitates the shop owner to have all the services at disposal at a single place is designed. A methodology has been designed which would enable to correctly identify people in a queue and further calculate the distance between them. Finally, the system has been tested from multiple angles to evaluate its performance.
