Abstract

Background: Nursing education is rapidly changing to be more digital and accessible to meet the demands of student nurses. Virtual patient learning is a platform which provides the students with enhanced communication skills and equips him/her with the necessary knowledge on assessment and furthers critical thinking and clinical reasoning.

Purpose: Student nurses need to be exposed to VPL as early as their first semester in the BSN Program, as it helps them learn the basics of interaction with a client in the clinical setting in a non-threatening environment. Hence, Virtual patients have been proposed as a learning activity that can support nursing students in their learning of scientific knowledge and also enable them to integrate theory and practice.

Conclusion: Virtual patient simulations have been found to improve competency skills, enhance critical thinking, learning readiness, and decision-making.
