Abstract

Inconel 800 is a high-temperature-sustaining superalloy. It is a nickel-based alloy high has several applications in heat exchangers, aerospace industries, and gas turbines.  The EDM is the versatile process of removing material using high voltage low current, since many years oil based EDM machines are used for commercial purposes which results in a release of toxic dielectric into the environment. Air as a dielectric is a good option to replace EDM oils, In the present study dry air is supplied between electrode and workpiece through a tubular copper electrode to investigate the effects of a process parameter, the tool rotation is also given to ease the removal of debris between tool and workpiece, an electrode of same outer diameter and different inner diameter is used, the responses viz; MRR, TWR, SR were analyzed. All the experiments were conducted in an existing EDM machine by attaching a compatible dry air system with electrode rotation mode.
