Abstract

Indigenous knowledge includes the philosophies, cultural traditions, traditional technologies associated with nature which are transmitted through one generation to another over a period of time by the local communities. Indigenous knowledge is dynamic and adaptable which continues to develop, expand and changes over time. The indigenous people had a deep and robust knowledge base which are denigrated and ignored due to western lifestyle so it should be included in the curriculum for its proper preservation and make youth connected with their root. Assam is rich in its cultural diversity and Majuli is one of a district of the state which is a pilgrimage place and known for its satras. These satras are the nerve centre of Vaisnavism and different art forms and practices like mask making, Rasleela, boat making, satriya dance, Palnaam etc. In this conceptual paper the author is going to throw light on the diverse cultures of the satras of Majuli and why it should be included in the school curriculum.
