Abstract

In this paper, the high-power axial flux permanent magnet synchronous motor is designed and validated by simulations. Designing a power dense permanent magnet motor with higher efficiency and better torque to weight ratio for low operational duty cycle is challenging. The design challenges arise when weight and dimensions are bounded by various design constraints. This type of design is important for optimal system performance in applications where size and power are important constraints. The electromagnetic design (like flux linkage, Back EMF, stator currents, inductances and airgap flux density) of axial flux permanent magnet synchronous motor is presented. The motor developed as part of the work will be the state of the art of its kind as per available literature. A 150-kW axial flux permanent magnet synchronous motor analytical design and validation is illustrated in this paper
